They’ve been working at least 10 hours a day for 6-7 days a week. They like the money but don’t understand that they’re being severely taken advantage of. They force them to work the overtime hours and to them, they just agree to work it. I’m in the IBEW, and finding this out and learning about how their bosses and their higher ups continually take advantage of them, and the good devoted workers, is killing me! I told them that they’re completely wrong for saying and threatening termination for talks of organizing. They told me it’s illegal for them to unionize because this casino is a sovereign casino and it isn’t a state run casino. I asked them if they ever heard about the benefits of a union, and they told me that they would get fired if anyone ever hinted at unionization. Of course they receive overtime for all their hours worked. (I’m going to be using they/them to refrain from identifying this person, or persons, as women or men to help protect identities in some way.) I have a friend that is currently working 10-12 hour days.
